Project Spotlight - SCRAP
SCRAP’s mission is to inspire creative reuse and environmentally sustainable behavior by providing educational programs and affordable materials to the community.
When NetRaising’s designer, Maria Pappas, creates custom web templates for a nonprofit, she prepares two designs. Ultimately, only one will be chosen by the original organization and, until recently, the other would collect digital dust in Maria’s computer.
That all changed in 2011 when NetRaising started offering the previously unselected original artwork to nonprofits on a tight budget. We call it our Repurposed Artwork, and three organizations have taken advantage of the new offering already. We offer the Repurposed Artwork at a third of the cost of our original artwork that Maria designs from scratch. This has made the program especially enticing for smaller organizations that typically can’t afford to invest in custom artwork.
Perhaps the organization that was most enthusiastic about our Repurposed Artwork was SCRAP, as re-purposing everyday items into artwork is a huge part of what it promotes, and the chance to repurpose digital artwork just seemed like serendipity at play.
SCRAP selected some artwork that was originally created for a local family shelter, and Maria repurposed it into the beautiful and highly functional site at: scrappdx.org »
