One day he started thinking about the environmental impact of all those miles he was driving, all those hours spent in the car and the 7,500 hours his downtown office sat empty each year and what he could do to reduce the resources needed to provide him with a rewarding vocation.
These days, Kurt works from home, drives less than 1,500 miles a year, has one simple wardrobe and meets with nearly all of his clients, and the rest of the team at NetRaising, online. Kurt also has more flexible work hours, eats more slow food, drinks more fairly-traded coffee and helps tend a small garden that grows outside his office window.
Over 95% of all NetRaising’s business records, documents, invoices and client artwork are created, consumed, and stored digitally and we’re working to reduce that last 5% in the next few years as we move toward a true paperless office.
We also promote website coding and compression methods that help to reduce the bandwidth and energy resources needed for their use. We are aware that every time someone visits a website they are potentially using some nonrenewable resources to do so, and we are doing our part to keep that nonrenewable energy use to a minimum.
