EllisLab, the company that makes EE, recently announced the end-of-life date for EE v1.0. EllisLab will end support of EE v1.0 in April of next year (2012).

A newer version of EE, version 2.0, was first released in December 2009 and NetRaising launched its first site using the new version in May of 2010. Since then, all our websites have been built on EE v2.0, and NetRaising has already updated many of our clients’ existing websites to the newer EE v2.0.

If your website was launched prior to May of 2010, then we recommend you get in touch with us this winter so we can make arrangements with you to update your website to the newer EE v2.0 during the first half of 2012. Making the transition from EE v1.0 to v2.0 will be a different situation for each of our clients. For some, it may only involve a couple hours of work; for others, it will be more involved, which is why we recommend you contact us soon so we can get a plan in place for you.

How to find out what version of EE your website currently uses

Log into the Control Panel of EE (where you edit and update your website) and look at the information at the very bottom of any page. There you’ll find the version number and copyright information. If your version starts with the number one (example: v1.7.1), then you have an older version of the software. If your version starts with a number two (example: v.2.3.1) then you are in the newer version already.

It’s very important that all our clients’ websites make the transition over to EE v2.0 within the next year, so if your site is running on EE v1.0, please get in touch.

September wrapped up in a big way for us with several website launches including:

We also wrapped up the first of our big hosting improvement projects by completing the moves of 45 of our West Coast clients’ websites to brand new hosting gear in a better-connected data center. This winter we’ll be working with 20 more of our clients (hosted on the East Coast) to get them into brand new hosting. We also have plans to add a third new hosting server in the California data center for future clients.

In October, we started development of a new mini-website for Cat Adoption Team’s new thrift store. catthriftstore.org

We’re designing a new, formatted email template for both SCRAP and Oregon Patient Safety that works with NetRaising’s email campaign solution.

With the masterful help of Consultant Albee Kara, we’ve had three of our clients switch email hosting over to Google Apps for Nonprofits and gain the benefits that come with Google Apps. Google has a great free program for non-religiously-focused schools and nonprofits, and we’re thrilled to see these groups taking advantage of it.

Of course, a lot of what we do for our clients is the day-to-day problem solving, code revisions and adjustments that keep dynamic websites working correctly on the web. Issues like: figuring out why a content feed quit feeding, why things display funny for some folks, why a click-able button isn’t click-able for some folks, why does Facebook’s wall posts show the wrong picture, why can’t someone log into part of his or her own site, etc.—those are the bread-and-butter things we help folks with every day at NetRaising. And while none of those problems by itself is very noteworthy, it is highly important to the client whose website is having the issue.

We also have some new clients joining us in the very near future and are excited to be working with some really great new organizations in our home state of Oregon.

Here’s just a few of the projects we’re involved with this summer:

We moved oregonhumanities.org over to our hosting and have begun making improvements to the functionality of the site. The site is now loading a little faster, and it’s easier for the staff to edit the site content.

We moved ponziwinebar.com and ponziwines.com to new hosting, updated some of the software that runs the sites and did some general updates and fixes.

We created new bilingual master templates for the San José Unified School District sites that are specifically developed to run in the new ExpressonEngine 2.2.x. The new templates will replace the ones we made for this district four years ago, and include many updates and new features. You can see two of the new sites that have already soft-launched for Student Services and San José High School.

We also:

Completely redesigned and redeveloped holtz.com.

Completely re-developed the bottom half of the home pages for obi.org,
txbi.org and arkbi.org.

Added new updated branding and other improvements to thedof.org.

Adjusted the design and made multiple improvements to the site navigation for the summainstitute.org

Updated the enewsletter templates and reworked the site banner to include social networking icons for the catadoptionteam.org.

Updated several parts of the design and navigation for handsonmwv.org.

Created a new wider page layout template for child-aid.org.

Developed new online event ticket systems for thecatterycc.org and themikeprogram.org.

And we’ve also moved 45 of our clients to a brand new host-server with four times the processing power and memory of the previous server. This is part of two large hosting upgrade projects we’re working on.
