Thank you, Kurt! In more ways than one.
You were my first introduction to the world of design and development. I’m so grateful for that because you showed me how possible it is to take something stressful, scary, complex, and technical and make it accessible, manageable, approachable, and achievable for people - all while being a respectful and kind (and patient) person!
That experience has stuck with me. I kid you not when I say that it was one of the things that motivated me to start my own freelance design business 4 years ago, despite alllllll the reservations and fear and uncertainty and self-doubt.
I knew there was a place in this industry for someone who was as knowledgeable as they were patient - who saw clients as partners, not as a necessary evil. I’ve worked with a lot of whacky (to put it nicely) “designers” and “developers” and “consultants” over the years and through it all, I remind myself - there are Kurts in the world, and that’s the kind of professional I want to be. So THANK YOU!!

As someone who has to navigate a LOT of websites for my kids and work and life in general, you have done an amazing job on the PYP site as far as content, ease of navigation, total lack of glitches, visual appeal, and just overall smoothness. Every time I have had to use the site since my son joined PYWE last year, I marvel in its ease. I was unable to come to the previous year’s parent orientation so never really thought that a human created and maintained it, and want to give credit where credit is due. So hats off to you!! And thank you for sparing me the misery I must suffer so many other places on the web.

Portland Youth Philharmonic developed a new website two years ago with NetRaising, using the ExpressionEngine platform. We have been totally happy with their design, which we worked out together, and we have control over editing nearly everything on the website. We have special password-protected sections of the website for our Board of Directors and for parents of musicians. We have an Alumni section visible and accessible to all, a blog links to YouTube and social media, and have recently begun posting extended program notes as well.
The content editing platform is easy to use. I am a Development person, not a Marketing/Communications person, and I can edit content as needed, and so can any number of other staff members. Our Communications Manager is the primary one who updates daily, maintains the homepage, concert schedules, and the blog.
A major selling point for us was being able to pay for the site development over two seasons. I recommend NetRaising highly and welcome you to check out PYP’s website at portlandyouthphil.org. NetRaising has built websites for several music organizations and other nonprofits in our area. Be sure to check them out before making a decision.

Developing with ExpressionEngine
We’ve been using ExpressionEngine since its beginning and ours.
Find out why.
